Unusual venues
Tonight I went to one of my favorite places to see bands play live in Austin - the Parlor. It's actually a small pizza restaurant and bar, but there's a little corner at the front of the store where bands play, almost every night if I'm not mistaken. How nice is that? I went and saw Party Garbage and Pink Razors tonight while I ate my dinner - a big, cheesy slice of pizza!
Though proper music venues are usually better equipped, and non just sound-wise, other places like the Parlor are a lot more fun and I really would love to see more of them. Abandoned buildings and house shows are important to punk rock for sure, but places like Fireside Bowl in Chicago and Nickel City in San Jose (and elsewhere?) seem like pretty neat ideas.
What other places might be fun to play? If history has taught me anything, probably laundromats, boats on the water, forests, parking garages. Any other ideas?
