Nerdy Day

So, today I spent pretty much the whole day (except for eating, talking to the girlfriend, and some other things) playing my favorite video game in the whole world EVER, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for Super Nintendo!

Sadly, I don't own a real SNES anymore, so I just emulated it on my computer - the big difference though, is that I used a custom controller. I bought a used Super Famicom controller in Japan (the colored buttons and logo look much better than the U.S. controller), and a cheap SNES-shaped USB controller from eBay. It was a lot of hard work, but I got the guts from the USB controller and swapped them with the SFC controller. After lots of failures and aggravations, it's finally working perfectly.

So, I spent a good 8 hours or so (read: wasted 8 hours) playing my all-time favorite game. It's the first time I played it seriously in 5 years - the previous time was around the same time of year, in a respective 8-hour and subsequent 4-hour stretch. It was a team effort by Yuki, an exchange student living in the same college dorm as I was at the time, and yours truly.

This time around, I cleared the game faster than I ever have, AND did it without dying or saving once! I didn't use save states or anything either. No cheating, just hardcore gaming. Man, I am such a nerd!

That is by far the best Zelda. I have it on Gameboy Advance which is awesome on an SP.
Ever dream of laying in bed and withdrawing the Master Sword?
It is just as amazing as it sounds, FYI.

a friend on a forum hacked the gba version to remove link's annoying yells and tried to restore the sound to the original snes version. i own the original cart, but i prefer the hacked version on my flash cart because of the sound.

after x-mas, i'm gonna dive into ocarina of time for the first time in over 10 years!
